Entomological workshop

Description: This workshop will help you to discover and photograph fascinating but mostly unknown world of small living creatures. We will explore different biotopes (beech forest, peat bog, mountain river valley, meadow) of Southern Poland (Western Carpathians: Pieniny, Tatra and Gorce Mts.) looking for interesting invertebrates. We hope to find several, splendid species such as : beautiful and rare butterflies - Apollo, Clouded Apollo and Moorland Clouded Yellow, large, blue slug - Bielzia coerulans and mountain species of carabids (C. variolosus, C. irregularis, C. linnei). The special attraction will be night photography – insects will be lured to light. We will go far from villages equipped with a power generator. Łukasz will help you to determine photographed species. In the evening, you will be also welcomed to use several illustrated guides to learn more about insects. The daily schedule will be flexible and can be adopted to personal abilities, interests and participants’ wishes. We will concentrate on invertebrates however, it will also be possible to photograph other animals, plants and landscapes.

Other species likely to be seen or photograph: Fire Salamander, 4 species of newts (including endemic Carpathian Newt), Yellow-bellied Toad, Common Viper, etc.

Itinerary:

1st day – arrival, transfer from Warsaw airport to the Pieniny Mts. B&B (400 km, ca. 6h driving)

2-6th day – 5 full days of excursions and nature photography in the mountains;

7th day – departure and transfer to Warsaw airport (400 km, ca. 6h driving)

included: accommodation (full board) in B&B, transport (local and from/to Warsaw airport), guiding, entrance tickets to the national parks

not included: personal insurance, horse carts or cable car in the Tatras (i.e. optional ways of local transport where getting by a private car is not permitted)
